Management Team

 

John C. Steinmann, DO – President and CEO

Dr. Steinmann is a practicing orthopedic spine surgeon with over 20 years experience. He is a member in good standing of the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and California Orthopedic Association. He is on the clinical faculty of Loma Linda University Medical Center and Western University of Health Sciences.
In addition to maintaining a successful practice within one of Southern California’s largest Orthopedic Groups (Arrowhead Orthopedics), he has been the driving force behind the development of many successful and innovative healthcare businesses including:

  • Seven Oaks Medical Center (2004): A 50,000 square foot, class A, medical office building, imaging center and surgery center
  • Advanced Ambulatory Surgery Center (2004): This three room surgery center performs over 2000 orthopedic cases annually and enjoys a impeccable track record for safety and patient satisfaction.
  • Inland Spine Products (2006): This innovative implant distribution company has introduced a novel alternative to traditional medical device distribution.
  • Alliance Surgical Distributors (2010), a company that is dedicated to the promotion of physician owned medical device distribution. This company has developed 10 distributorships across the U.S. and has been influential in establishing standards to govern this model.

Dr. Steinmann will combine his business experience with his relevant clinical experience, providing oversight to operations and to product design. As a practicing orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Steinmann also serves as the Clinical Director of the Spine Division for Renovis Surgical Technologies, Inc.


 

Trace Cawley – Vice President, Sales & Marketing – Spine

Trace brings Renovis over 16 years of experience, having entered the orthopedic market in 1994, with a background ranging from field operations, sales, marketing and product development for privately held, publicly traded, and early stage companies. His most recent role was as a founder and officer of a spinal implant manufacturer, where he helped build the team and the company from start-up to commercialization of products with annual sales in excess of $20 million. The company was recently acquired for $45 million.


 

Anthony DeBenedictis, MS, MBA – Vice President, Quality Assurance

Anthony brings to Renovis over 10 years of experience in the medical device industry across a multitude of disciplines including Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, Product Development, and Project Management.  Within his current role, he oversees all aspects of the organization’s quality system and ensures compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.  Anthony began and spent a large part of his career at Smith & Nephew Endoscopy and was most recently employed as Senior Quality Engineer.  His educational background is incredibly diverse and includes a B.S. in Physics from the University of Delaware, a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, and an MBA from the University of Oklahoma.


 

Andrew Olcese – Vice President, Sales & Marketing – Adult Reconstruction

Andrew brings to Renovis Surgical over 16 years of experience developing, marketing and selling implants in the orthopedic industry. His diverse background includes responsibilities in the biologics, trauma and joint reconstruction markets. He began his career at Stryker and has had a variety of sales and marketing roles with Sulzer, Zimmer and DJO Surgical. Andrew received his B.A. in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and has completed the Management Executive Education Program at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.


 

Mark Reinhardt – Director of Logistics and Operations

Mark Reinhardt is a Supply Chain Professional with more than twenty years experience in Distribution, Systems, Third Party Logistics and Operations Management.  Most recently, he served at Emerson, where as Worldwide Planning Manager he implemented an integrated business planning process supporting over $1 billion in sales annually.  Prior to Emerson, he spent five years at Sulzer Orthopedics in Demand and Inventory Management working closely with distributors, and coordinating new product introductions.  Mark’s earlier career experiences include warehouse and transportation management, purchasing, and project management.  He is a Certified Professional Forecaster, and is an active member of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals.


 

Ernesto Rios, MS, MBA – Director of Manufacturing Operations

Ernesto has over 12 years of manufacturing experience across multiple industries and disciplines. He began his career as a manufacturing engineer at General Motors Corp. and later moved to the high-tech industry where he acted as the US liaison for Staktek Holdings’ operations in Mexico. Most recently, Ernesto served as Manager of Manufacturing Engineering at DJO Surgical where he led the manufacturing activities for the introduction of hip, shoulder and knee joint systems. At DJO, Ernesto also served as Lean Manufacturing Champion, facilitating over 20 continuous improvement events. Ernesto holds a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Texas – Pan American, a M.S. of Engineering in Manufacturing from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Indiana University.


 

Thomas Ross, MS, MBA – Vice President, Product Development

Thomas has 10 years of experience in implant and instrument design in the orthopedic industry. He has successfully led development projects from concept to successful commercialization, including both spine and total joint products. In addition, he has a thorough understanding of product development methods and how these relate to all aspects of quality systems and regulations. Thomas received Masters Degrees in both Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering from the University of South Florida, Tampa. He also earned an MBA from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.


 

John P. Steinmann, MBA – Vice President, Marketing – Spine & Trauma

John brings over 6 years of industry sales and distribution experience in trauma, total joints and spine.  He is very well respected by the surgeons he currently works with. John is able to offer insight into efficiencies in sales and distribution that are underutilized in the industry. In addition, he offers very practical solutions to instrumentation design and is capable of conversing with designing surgeons on all critical aspects of implant and instrument design.  John has gained valuable experience in the design and manufacturing of implants and instruments and will remain abreast of industry trends and serve as the bridge between surgeon needs and engineering and manufacturing functions. John recently earned his MBA from the University of Redlands.
